An OTOTOY account needs only an e-mail address on the public forms: no Japanese phone number, card or address. But many major-label albums cannot be bought from outside Japan, redeeming from outside Japan is unconfirmed, and the code cannot be refunded and expires after 6 months, per its official listing. This guide is based on OTOTOY’s own help pages and terms, and on customer reports where we say so, as of October 2026.
What you need
- An e-mail address that can receive mail from
info@ototoy.jp. - A web browser. The site has an English interface, but many help pages stay in Japanese.
- Your 16-character prepaid code from the japan-codes.com order e-mail.
- No payment card. Registration is free, and the code takes the place of a card.
The sign-up, sign-in and redeem forms do not ask for a phone number, ID or postal address. The second sign-up page, opened from the confirmation e-mail, is not described in OTOTOY’s help pages, and we have not seen it.
Check your titles before you buy the code. Open the page of each album you want. If it shows We’re sorry, this album is not available in your region. (この作品は、お住まいの地域では購入できません。) and N/A instead of a price, you cannot buy it from your location. When OTOTOY’s top page was read from a UK connection on one day in October 2026, 15 of the first 30 albums showed this message, including all 9 Sony Music Labels titles among them. The lock is set per title, not per label, so check your own titles.
New account or existing one
If you already have an OTOTOY account, use it. There is no country setting and no separate “Japanese” account. OTOTOY’s terms prohibit one person from holding more than one registration.
Creating the account
In a web browser
- Open the OTOTOY sign-up page. In the site menu it is the person icon Guest (ゲストモード), then Sign Up (会員登録).
- If the page is in Japanese, select 言語/Language in the footer.
- Choose English – en.
- Select Save Changes.
- Type your address in Email Address (メールアドレス).
- Tick I agree to the OTOTOY Terms of Use (利用規約に同意します。).
- The button is greyed out when the page first loads. The page loads an automatic anti-bot check, which is probably why. Wait a moment, then select Email Registration (メールアドレス登録).
- This is only a provisional registration. Open the e-mail from
info@ototoy.jp. Check your spam folder if it does not arrive. - Follow the link in the e-mail.
- The page that opens is reported to be where you set your password. Use only the symbols the page lists: one customer reports that the page did not react to a password containing other symbols.
- Fill in what the page asks for. OTOTOY’s privacy policy says joining needs your name, e-mail address, age and gender, so the page may ask for these; we have not seen the form. Enter your real details: the terms prohibit registering false member information such as name, place of residence or birthday.
- Open the sign-in page.
- Enter your Email Address (メールアドレス) and Password (パスワード).
- Select Sign In (ログイン).
Redeeming the code
The redeem page opened normally from a UK connection. Whether submitting a code from outside Japan succeeds is not confirmed by OTOTOY or by any customer report we found.
- Check that you are signed in to the right account. Nothing in OTOTOY’s help pages describes a way to move or return points once they are added.
- Open the passcode page. In the menu it is Redeem Passcode (パスコードを入力).
- Type the 16-character code into Enter your passcode (パスコードの入力). Use plain letters and digits, and enter one code at a time.
- Select Send (送信).
- Check the number of points the page shows. The 3,000 JPY code is worth 30,000 points.
- Select the confirm button, 有効化する in Japanese (it means “activate”; we have not seen its English label). The code is not redeemed until you do this.
- You should see Points have been added to you account (ポイントが振り出されました; the English text is spelled this way on the site).
- Check your balance in the menu under Points History (ポイント獲得/利用履歴). You must be signed in.
OTOTOY’s own passcode help article (Japanese) shows these steps.
To pay with points, add music to your cart and go to チェックアウト (Checkout). OTOTOY’s how-to-buy page, written in 2020, says that on the screen 購入音源と決済方法の確認 (Confirm items and payment method) a button OTOTOYポイントで支払う (Pay with OTOTOY points) appears when your balance covers the total, followed by お支払いの確認へ (Go to payment confirmation). We have not seen the current screen, so it may differ.
Problems and fixes
- “Not available in your region” on an album. The title is locked for your location. Customers report that a connection through Japan (a VPN), kept on while adding to the cart and paying, lets them buy locked titles, and that downloads then work without it. No report covers paying with points, and OTOTOY’s terms neither permit nor forbid it. We cannot help you find a VPN. Otherwise, choose another title.
- The confirmation e-mail does not arrive. Allow mail from
info@ototoy.jpand check spam. If it still does not come, contact OTOTOY. - The sign-up or sign-in button stays grey. Waiting a few seconds, reloading the page or turning off content blockers may help.
- The password page does not react. One customer reports that a different password, without symbols outside the ones listed on the page, fixed it. This is a single report.
- The code is rejected. OTOTOY’s page says a code works once, only one can be entered at a time, and some codes expire. We do not know the exact error texts. If your code is refused, write to support@japan-codes.com.
Rules and limits worth knowing
- Code expiry: the product’s official listing says the prepaid number is valid for 6 months from its purchase date. OTOTOY’s own page for the code gives no expiry. Redeem it as soon as you receive it.
- Points: 10 points equal 1 yen and do not expire once added.
- No refunds: OTOTOY does not cancel or refund after payment, and the code cannot be refunded or exchanged for cash.
- Region: OTOTOY’s terms of use contain no rule about residence, overseas use or VPNs. The only region wording we found on OTOTOY’s pages is the per-title message described above. The Japanese text of the terms prevails.
- One account per person. OTOTOY may delete a registration if a prohibited act continues after it asks you to stop.
- Sony Music Labels titles carry a download limit: their pages say “The total number of downloads available is 10.”
- Downloads are not copy-controlled.
FAQ
Do I need the OTOTOY app?
No. The app is an optional player for music bought on your web account. Redeem the code on the website.
What can I buy with the points?
Music on ototoy.jp, including pre-orders. Whether points also pay for merchandise or OTOTOY PREMIUM is not confirmed.
What if my points do not cover the full price?
OTOTOY lets you combine points with another payment method in 10-point steps. Customers report that PayPal works from abroad. Reports about foreign cards differ: one customer reports an ordinary US debit card working, another reports an error followed by the card being blocked twice.
Can I buy as a guest without an account?
Guest purchase exists, but it cannot use points. You need an account to use this code.
Can I redeem two codes?
OTOTOY’s passcode page says only that several codes cannot be entered at once and that each code works once. Whether there is an upper limit on the points balance is not stated anywhere we found, so redeem one code and check the balance before buying another.
You can find the code in our OTOTOY category. For questions about your order, see the store FAQ or write to support@japan-codes.com.
