A NetEase Gamesclub account asks only for an e-mail address and your country at sign-up. The limits are on spending: the balance pays only for yen-priced items, a game’s Japan region can require your age to be registered inside the game, and we found no report of a yen checkout completed from outside Japan. This guide is based on NetEase’s own help pages and terms, and on customer reports where we say so, as of October 2026.
What you need
- An e-mail address you can open. NetEase sends a verification code to it.
- A web browser. Gamesclub is a website, pay.neteasegames.com. There is no app. The site’s login notice says it cannot be used with PlayStation, Nintendo Switch or MacBook. It does not explain further, so if you play on one of those, treat top-up as unconfirmed.
- Your code from our e-mail. Customers report that e-mailed codes are a single 13-character code of letters and digits.
- A character in a game that has a Japan region on Gamesclub. Without one, you can redeem the code but you have nothing to spend it on.
- Your age registered inside the game, if the Japan region asks for it before a purchase.
A payment card is not requested to create the account or to redeem a code. At checkout you must select a payment method, but one customer reports that it is not charged when the balance covers the price.
We found no phone, address or ID field at sign-up. We found no ID check for Gamesclub itself. One Japan-version game has an error message that asks for real-name verification inside the game before top-up. We do not know how widely this applies.
Check your game before you buy
The Japan card can only buy items priced in yen. As of October 2026, these games offer a Japan region on Gamesclub: Where Winds Meet, Once Human, Magic Awakened, Eggy Party, Knives Out, Identity V, Destiny: Rising, Marvel Rivals, LifeAfter, Ace Racer, Infinite Lagrange, レーシングマスター (Racing Master), Sword of Justice, EVE Echoes, Onmyoji Arena and NBAダンクシティ (NBA Dunk City).
No Japan region today: Dunk City Dynasty, Blood Strike, Blood Strike Max, Racing Master SEA/KR/NA/LATAM, CotC and Infinite Borders KR. The list changes. The current list of supported games is shown on the activation page.
Three things are not confirmed:
- We found no report from a customer outside Japan who completed a yen checkout. NetEase’s pages do not say if a Japanese IP address is needed.
- It is unknown if a character on a non-Japan server can be topped up under the Japan region. As far as we can tell, yen prices appear only under a game’s Japan region.
- The Japan region can require that your age is registered inside the game before a purchase. One of NetEase’s own error messages reads: “If you are not a Japanese visitor, please select a non-Japanese region to recharge.” In a non-Japan region the yen balance cannot pay.
If your character is on a global or other regional server, treat this card as a risk.
New account or existing one
If you already have a NetEase Games account, you can log in with it: enter your e-mail or username and your password, then tap Log In (ログイン). We found nothing that requires a separate account for Japan. NetEase’s stated rule is about the currency of the card. Whether the country chosen on the account also matters is not known. If you link a game character, log in with the same account type that owns that character.
Creating the account
The site language can be changed at the top right under Region/Language. For the sign-up window, the steps give the English label with the Japanese in brackets. For Gamesclub’s own pages, they give the Japanese label with its meaning in brackets.
- Open pay.neteasegames.com in your browser.
- Tap the アカウント (Account) tab.
- Tap 個人アカウントにログインする (Log in to personal account).
- Tap 今すぐログイン (Log in now).
- In the login window, tap Register (アカウント作成).
- Tap Create Account (新しいアカウントを作成する). Google is offered here instead of the e-mail form.
- Select the country where you live under Country/Region (居住地). It is not known if this choice affects anything later, or if it can be changed.
- Enter your e-mail under Email Address (メールアドレス).
- Enter it again under Confirm Email Address (メールアドレス確認).
- Tick the required box to confirm your age and accept the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. The age shown is 13 or 16, depending on the country you selected. The second box, for news and offers, is optional.
- Tap Continue (続ける).
- Enter the Verification Code (認証コード) from the e-mail. If it does not arrive, check your spam folder or tap Resend (再送信).
- Under Set Username (アカウント名を設定), enter 6 to 32 characters. Do not use an e-mail address or special characters.
- Enter a password of at least 6 characters.
- Enter the password again under Reenter Password (パスワード確認).
- Tap Done (完了). You should see アカウントを作成しました! (Account created).
Open the personal account
The exact screens of this part are not confirmed. The labels below come from the site’s text and one customer report.
- Back on Gamesclub, tap 個人アカウントを開設する (Open a personal account).
- Tap 今すぐ開始 (Start now).
- Set a 6-digit 支払いパスワード (payment password). Runs such as 123 and repeats such as 111 are rejected. NetEase requires this password before you pay from the account.
- Optional: tap 関連キャラクターを追加する (Add associated character). One customer reports that the account seems to work without this step.
- Select your game under ゲームを選択してください (select a game).
- Select your server under サーバーを選択してください (select a server).
- Enter the character ID.
Redeeming the code
The code must be activated within 180 days of the card’s purchase date. Redeem it as soon as it arrives.
- Log in and open pay.neteasegames.com/my-wallet/gift-cards. In the menu this page is called NetEase Pay (Gift Card). After login the site may ask NetEase Pay (Gift Card) の有効化ページに移動しますか? (Go to the gift card activation page?). Accept it.
- Tap the tab Without card number (カード番号なし). Customers report that e-mailed codes go here. The default tab, With card number (カード番号あり), asks for a 13-character card number plus a 9-character code. Use it only if you received two values.
- Type the 13-character code.
- Tap Activate. In Japanese the button reads 有効化 on the current site and アクティベート in NetEase’s help image.
- Look for 有効化に成功しました (Activation successful). The card then appears in the list バインドされた (Cards).
Spending the balance
The checkout labels below come from NetEase’s help material and one customer report. The current site may word them differently.
- Open the page of your game on Gamesclub.
- Set the region to Japan with the selector at the top right. Prices should then show in yen. NetEase does not document this switch for players outside Japan.
- Select a payment method under 支払方法を選んでください (choose payment method). NetEase’s help says any method. One customer reports that the choice does not matter when the balance covers the price. The site’s data suggests that convenience-store methods and Pay-easy do not combine with the gift card balance, but NetEase does not document this.
- Pick an amount under 金額の選択 (select amount).
- Tick the NetEase Pay box near the bottom of the page. One customer reports it labeled 割引 (discount).
- Tap チャージ (top up). One customer reports that the payment password is then requested.
One customer reports that the balance is used first and that nothing else is charged when it covers the full price. NetEase’s card text says the card can be combined with other payment methods.
Problems and fixes
- 無効なカード番号 (Invalid card number): the wrong tab or a typing error. For a single e-mailed code, use Without card number and enter the code again.
- カード番号はすでに有効化されています (Card number has been activated): the code is already redeemed. Check the card list in your wallet.
- 有効化に失敗しました (Activation failed): a general error. NetEase does not document the cause. Check that the code is inside the 180 days.
- Prices are not in yen, or the balance is not offered: the region on the game page is not Japan.
- This currency is not available for payment in your region: NetEase does not document what triggers it. Its help advice for regional payment trouble is to try another network or another payment method supported in your region.
- 生年月日がまだ登録されておりません (date of birth not registered): the Japan region requires age verification before a purchase. Register your age inside the game (NetEase says to tap the top-up button in the game), then try again. It is unclear if players on non-Japan servers are offered this step. NetEase’s other suggestion is to switch to a region without age verification, but the yen balance cannot pay there.
- 未成年の購入限度額を超えています。 (minors’ payment limit reached): the Japan region caps purchases by age.
- Guest account error: bind your game account inside the game first.
- Does not support logging in with this account: the character belongs to a region served by a different top-up site.
- PlayStation characters cannot be topped up on Gamesclub.
- Payment password forgotten: reset it with a code sent by e-mail, valid for 10 minutes. Changing it too often locks changes for 30 days.
- An order paid with the gift card failed: the value returns to your balance automatically.
If activation fails, take a screenshot of the error and write to support@japan-codes.com promptly. Our FAQ has the terms.
Rules and limits worth knowing
- Currency: NetEase states “you can only purchase items with the same currency as your NetEase Pay cards.” Balances in different currencies cannot be converted or merged. NetEase has moved prices in some regions to US dollars, and a balance stays usable only for items still priced in its own currency. Japan shows yen as of October 2026.
- Expiry: the unredeemed code is valid for 180 days from purchase. An activated balance does not expire (see NetEase’s legal notice, in Japanese).
- Residence: we found no clause in NetEase’s Terms of Use that limits the service to residents of Japan. The terms also give no warranty that the service is available in any particular location.
- VPN: the terms do not mention VPNs or proxies. They do forbid circumventing technical measures that control access. We cannot help you find a VPN.
- The card, its number and the balance cannot be transferred, returned, refunded, reissued or resold. NetEase gives no refunds except where the law requires it.
- You may not share, lend or transfer your account. A character can be linked to only one Gamesclub account.
- Minors need a guardian’s consent, and purchase caps apply. In one Japan game the cap is 5,000 yen under age 16 and 20,000 yen from 16 to 18.
FAQ
Do I need a VPN?
It is not known. NetEase’s pages do not state that a Japanese IP address is required, and we have no report from outside Japan of a full login, activation and yen checkout. Read the terms note above before you decide.
Why do I have to choose a payment method if I pay with the card?
The checkout requires one. NetEase’s help says to choose any method and then select NetEase Pay. One customer reports that the method is only charged if the balance is too small.
My account was suspended. Who do I contact?
Account suspensions are handled by NetEase, not by us. The appeal address shown on the site is gameclub.support@service.netease.com.
You can find all values of the NetEase Pay Gift Card (Japan), from 500 to 10,000 JPY, in our store. If a label is unclear or you need help with a translation, write to support@japan-codes.com.
