How to Create a DAZN Japan Account (2026 Guide)

A DAZN Gift Code (Japan) only works for someone who is physically in Japan when signing up, redeeming and watching. The issuer says the code cannot be used overseas, and DAZN forbids and blocks VPNs. If you will stay outside Japan, this product is not for you. Depending on the code, a card issued in Japan may also be needed. This guide is based on DAZN’s own help pages and terms, and on customer reports where we say so, as of October 2026.

What you need

• To be in Japan, on an ordinary Japanese internet connection with any VPN switched off.
• A web browser on a computer or phone. DAZN’s help page documents redeeming on the web, not in the app.
• An e-mail address that is not already tied to a DAZN account, unless it is your own ended DAZN Japan account (see below).
• A first name, a last name and a password. DAZN’s sign-up form appears to accept Latin letters. The name cannot be changed later.
• Your code from the japan-codes.com order e-mail. Codes are case-sensitive.
• To be 18 or older. DAZN’s terms require guardian consent and supervision for minors.

A phone number is an optional profile field. The documented sign-up steps do not ask for ID or a postal address. DAZN’s article says the payment step can be skipped when a skip link is shown, and that whether it is shown depends on the code. We cannot confirm in advance which applies to your code. If it is not shown, a payment method is required. DAZN requires credit and debit cards to be issued in Japan, and it is not confirmed that any other payment method works for customers without one.

New account or existing one

• No DAZN account yet: create a new one while redeeming. This is the path DAZN documents for gift codes and the one this guide follows.
• DAZN account from another country: it cannot take a Japan code. DAZN accounts stay tied to the country where they were created. You need a separate Japan account with a different e-mail address.
• Active DAZN Japan account: the code only applies if you are on DAZN Standard, monthly plan or annual plan paid in one sum, billed directly by DAZN. See “Redeeming on an existing Japan account” below.

Create the account and redeem the code

Do this in a web browser, in Japan. An applied code cannot be undone, moved to another account or refunded, so check the e-mail address before you finish.

The steps follow DAZN’s gift code help article (English version). The labels below are from the Japanese screens, and the English wording can differ slightly.

1. Open dazn.com/ja-JP/redeem (English: dazn.com/en-JP/redeem). You can also use the コード適用 (Redeem) link at the bottom of the DAZN home page.
2. Copy and paste your code into the field, then press 適用する (Apply). On a newer version of the screen the button is ギフトコードを適用 (Redeem now).
3. Enter your e-mail address and press 次へ or 次へ進む (Next). If a password field then appears, that address already has a DAZN account. Stop and use a different address, unless it is your own ended Japan account (see the next section).
4. Enter your first name, last name and a password, then press 続行 (Continue). Use at least 8 characters with an upper-case letter, a lower-case letter and a number.
5. Check which plan is selected. It is reported, but not confirmed, that 年間プラン（月々払い） (Annual plan, paid monthly) may be selected by default. It is a 12-month contract. Choose 月間プラン (Monthly plan) and press 次へ (Next). The plan only applies after the code period ends. Nothing is charged during the code period.
6. On the payment screen, choose 自動更新を希望しない場合はスキップする (in English: Add a payment method later) if it is shown. DAZN says this link depends on the code, so it may not appear.
7. If a pop-up titled プランの継続をお忘れなく (in English: Don’t miss out on your plan) follows, choose 後で追加 (Add later).
8. Check the code period and your e-mail address on the final screen, then press 登録する (Start subscription).
9. On a phone browser, if a 視聴を開始する (Start watching) pop-up appears, choose キャンセル (Cancel), not アプリを開く (Open app).
10. To confirm, log in on the web, select the profile icon at the top right and open マイ・アカウント (My Account). The 次回請求日 (Next billing date) should be moved out by the length of your code. DAZN says this can take up to 24 hours, and My Account itself is reported to be unavailable for up to 24 hours after sign-up. If nothing has changed after a few days, DAZN says to contact its customer service.
11. To watch on a phone, install the DAZN app and log in with the same e-mail and password. The iPhone app is listed in App Stores outside Japan too, and the Android app is reported to be a single Google Play listing, so a Japanese app store account should not be needed.

Redeeming on an existing Japan account

If your DAZN Japan account is active and eligible, redeem in a web browser:

1. Log in on the web and open マイ・アカウント (My Account).
2. Under クイックリンク (Quick links), choose ギフトコードを利用 (Redeem gift code).
3. Paste the code and press 適用する (Apply).

The code period starts the day after your current paid period ends.

Ended account: if your old Japan account has fully ended, log out of DAZN on every device, open the redeem page in a private browser window, enter the code, then log in with your old e-mail and password and continue from step 5 above.

Accounts that cannot take the code: accounts billed through an app store, a mobile carrier or another partner, accounts on the annual plan paid monthly, and paused accounts. DAZN’s instruction is to cancel, wait until the period ends, and join again through the redeem page. A paused account can instead be resumed first, which charges a monthly fee. An eligible account that has been cancelled but is still inside its paid period cannot take the code until the cancellation is undone in My Account.

Problems and fixes

• “Sorry, your gift code can’t be used in this country” (この国ではこのギフトコードをご利用いただけません。) or “This code can’t be used in your current location” (このギフトコードは現在のご利用地域では登録できません。): DAZN does not see you as being in Japan. Redeem once you are in Japan. Do not press ギフトコードなしで登録 (Sign up without gift code) or ギフトコードを登録せずに続ける (Continue without the code).
• “We believe you are accessing DAZN using a VPN” (恐れ入りますが、VPN経由でDAZNのご利用はできません): switch off any VPN or proxy. At least one user review reports that a roaming eSIM connection triggered this too. A fixed Wi-Fi connection in Japan may help. If you are not using a VPN, DAZN says to contact your internet provider.
• “Sorry, we didn’t recognise your gift code” (ご入力いただいたギフトコードを確認できませんでした。): often a typing error. Paste the code instead of typing it. I, l and 1 look alike, as do O and 0. An expired code gives the same result.
• “Too many attempts” (試行回数の上限に達しました): wait and try again later.
• こちらのギフトコードはすでに使用済または期限切れです。 (This gift code is already used or expired): write to support@japan-codes.com with a screenshot of the message.
• “Gift code can’t be applied” (ギフトコードを適用できません): the account is on a plan that cannot take a code. See the section above.
• お支払い方法の設定をお願いします (Please set up a payment method), with no skip link: that code needs a payment method on file. DAZN requires credit and debit cards to be issued in Japan, and it is not confirmed that any other payment method works for customers without one. Contact us before going further.
• Paid content still locked after redeeming: check 次回請求日 (Next billing date) in My Account and allow up to 24 hours. Content also stays locked when you are outside Japan.
• 登録デバイスの制限に達しています (Registered device limit reached, code 65-450-403): open My Account, go to デバイス (Devices) and log out of all devices.

Rules and limits worth knowing

• Japan only. The issuer’s terms say the code can be used only in Japan and not overseas. DAZN says that to use DAZN Japan you generally need to access it from within Japan.
• No VPN. DAZN’s VPN help article says you must not use a VPN to access DAZN. DAZN’s pages appear to take your country from your connection, so a customer outside Japan would need a connection through Japan (a VPN), and that is what DAZN forbids and blocks. We cannot help with VPNs.
• Travel. Outside Japan, a Japan account can log in but only free and global-rights content plays. See DAZN’s travelling article.
• What the code gives. DAZN Standard for 1, 6 or 12 months. It is not a money balance and cannot pay for pay-per-view events.
• Expiry. The issuer’s terms give an unredeemed code 180 days from its original purchase, which can be earlier than the date of your japan-codes.com order. DAZN says an expired code cannot be applied in any case. Redeem it as soon as you receive it.
• After the code period. With no payment method on file, the account ends automatically. With one, DAZN renews at ¥4,200 per month, and the monthly plan has a 30-day cancellation period.
• No refunds. DAZN does not refund a code in any case, and an applied code cannot be paused or cancelled early.
• Streams. Two devices can watch at the same time, and only when both are on the same network. DAZN’s pages disagree on how many devices you can register.

FAQ

Can I redeem the code from outside Japan?

Not within DAZN’s rules. The code is sold for use in Japan only, DAZN has error messages for codes entered from the wrong country, and it blocks VPNs. We know of no confirmed report of a Japan code being redeemed from abroad.

I live abroad but will visit Japan. Does that work?

That is the situation DAZN’s rules allow for. Sign up, redeem and watch while you are in Japan. Once you leave, the paid Japan content stops playing, and the code period keeps running.

Do I need a Japanese credit card?

Not if the skip link appears on the payment screen, which DAZN describes as depending on the code. If it does not appear, or if you choose to add a card, DAZN requires credit and debit cards to be issued in Japan, and it is not confirmed that any other payment method works for customers without one.

Can I add a second code to extend my time?

Uncertain. DAZN’s help article says it is possible from My Account after the first code shows there, but one DAZN error message says to wait until the current code expires. Redeem one code, then check DAZN’s help article before buying another.
